The video begins with a trio of logos displayed on a white screen, which is bordered by a mutli-coloured line. The border is in Buddle branded colours; purple, navy, turquoise, orange, red and light blue. The Buddle logo is shown at the top of the screen, followed by the ‘supported by Sport England’ logo and ‘The National Lottery’ logo beneath.
The name of the video, ‘Place-based working’, appears beneath in dark blue text. Upbeat music starts and continues throughout the video. Subtitles appear at the bottom of the screen throughout, accompanying the voiceover.
The frame transitions with a horizontal Buddle brand colour swipe, revealing a vibrant outdoor scene showing various people engaging in different types of physical activity. On the left side of the screen, two people are in a swimming pool. On the right, a variety of individuals are seen.
There’re two children playing catch with a ball, a woman with a walking stick walking alongside a pregnant woman, two children playing badminton, two women performing yoga, and a man and a boy kicking a football. In the background, a person on a bike passes by, as does a man on an electric mobility scooter and a woman skateboarding.
Colourful signs can also be seen in the background, showing the direction of different venues including a community hub, town centre, leisure centre, toilets, café and swimming pool.
The voiceover begins, saying: “Everyone has the right to take part and enjoy physical activity and sport. Being active is important for our health, wellbeing, confidence and development. It also helps us meet new people and feel connected to our local community.”
As the voiceover speaks, the words ‘Health’, ‘Wellbeing’, ‘Confidence’, and ‘Development’ appear in different Buddle brand colours. The woman with a walking stick and the pregnant woman walk towards and start talking to a man walking with a dog and a man in a wheelchair. Speech bubbles appear above their heads.
The voiceover continues: “But we don’t all have the same opportunities to be active.”
The camera pans left to reveal a woman sitting on a park bench, using her mobile phone, beside a man and a toddler standing nearby. The man then picks up the toddler.
A purple box appears on the right-hand side of the screen, with the words ‘Places’, ‘Other people’, ‘Health’, ‘Finances’, ‘Responsibilities’, and ‘Environment’ gradually appearing alongside respective icons.
The voiceover continues: “We’re influenced by the places where we live, work or study, other people, our health, our finances, our responsibilities, and the environment around us.”
The man, carrying the toddler and woman walk off-screen to the left, and the frame transitions again with a Buddle branded colour swipe. The screen now splits into two images. On the left side of the screen, there is a glass fronted community hub next to the previously seen signs pointing to different venue locations. The cyclist, man on mobility scooter and women skateboarding reappear on a path in front of the community hub.
Also, in the image are the man and woman in the swimming pool, the two children playing catch and the woman with the walking stick and pregnant woman talking to the man with a dog and the man in a wheelchair. On the right edge of this scene pitch markings can been seen.
On the right side of the screen an urban housing estate is shown, which includes flats and houses. Some of the buildings have graffiti on them and there is a bike leant in front of one of the buildings. In the centre of the estate is a basketball court, which has cracks on the surface and holes in the surrounding fence. Within the court, two girls, a boy and a woman are standing. One of the girls and the boy are playing catch. The woman has a speech bubble saying, ‘We need more support!’. The image zooms in on the other girl raising both arms.
The voiceover says: “No two places are the same, what’s available in one might not be in another. Differences and inequalities exist. Some communities, especially in lower income areas, may have less opportunities to be active and need more support.”
The frame transitions with another Buddle branded colour swipe. A man in an orange t-shirt appears on the left side of the screen. On the right side of the screen, a man wearing a doctors uniform and a woman, in a pink top, with a whistle around her neck, walk together. The words ‘Place-based working’ drop down from the top of the screen, one by one, in different Buddle branded colours. Once in the middle of the screen, the words ‘Place-based working’ are held at either end by the people on screen.
The voiceover continues: “There’s a national movement to tackle this inequality of opportunity. It’s called place-based working. It’s focused on finding support and solutions to get communities moving.”
The three people within the frame move the words to the left side, and the frame transitions again with a Buddle branded colour swipe. Four people appear on screen including a woman in a purple dress, a man in a blue t-shirt, and a girl in a hijab, stand next to a man in a pink t-shirt seated on an electric mobility scooter. The words ‘Connected’, ‘Understand’, ‘Share resources’, and ‘Push towards goals’ appear around the individuals in various Buddle brand colours.
The voiceover says: “It recognises that we’re all stronger when we’re connected, understand each other’s needs, share resources, and push towards the same goal.”
A large outlined white map of the United Kingdom appears. The group of four individuals are placed in the north region of the map. A purple line is drawn from them, with the words ‘Asking local people’ next to it. Four coloured circles are marked in the centre of the map with a black line joining them together, and a red line is drawn from them with the words ‘Mapping out what’s available’. A woman with a prosthetic leg, a man in a wheelchair and another man stood in front of images of a school, government building, and medical centre appear on the east side of the map, with a with a light blue line leading from them with the words ‘Bringing together leaders’. A dark blue line is drawn from the southeast of the map with the words ‘Finding solutions’ next to it.
The voiceover continues: “It starts with understanding the unique makeup of each place by asking local people what they need, mapping out what’s available, bringing together the leaders, policy and decision makers, organisations and facilities who can influence change, and finding solutions that tackle inactivity.”
A magnifying glass appears over the map, transitioning the scene to a group of five individuals standing in a line. There are three men: one is wearing a purple t-shirt, another in a doctor’s uniform, and a third is wearing a blue t-shirt and has a prosthetic leg. There is also a girl in a blue top and a woman in a light blue top, with the word volunteer printed on the front. The words ‘Thank you!’ appear in large dark blue text above the group, and they begin walking to the right.
The voiceover continues: “All over the country, clubs and community organisations are providing vital local opportunities for people to be active. Thank you.”
As the group walks, the words transition to the left and three icons appear above the individuals heads. The icons include a blue location pin, an orange flame within a heart, and a red fist. A large blue arrow appears replacing the three icons. The arrow points in the direction the group is walking, with the words ‘Creating change’ written within it. The image zooms out and eight more people appear in the line.
The voiceover continues: “For place-based working to succeed, we need passionate, brave local leaders to commit to joining the movement towards tackling inequalities and creating change, so more people can benefit from living active lives.”
The frame transitions again with a Buddle colour swipe. The words ‘Place-based working’ are written just off centre, towards the right of the screen in purple text, with a light blue line appearing above the text. To the left of the screen is a purple box. The light blue line leads up to reveal a group of four individuals, including a woman using a walking stick, a man, a woman, and another woman in a wheelchair. Within the purple box appears the words ‘Look at who’s participating and volunteering’.
The voiceover says: “There’s lots you can do to help. You can look at who’s participating and volunteering at your organisation to see if there’s any groups missing from your local community.”
A magnifying glass appears and focuses on the women with a walking stick. The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and a turquoise line is drawn to the bottom right. The line leads to a man in a wheelchair wearing a turban, talking to a woman in a pink t-shirt. A speech bubble appears above the woman and the words ‘Talk to people’ appears within the purple text box on the left of the screen.
The voiceover continues: “Talk to people to understand what they need and any barriers they face.”
The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and an orange line is drawn to the right. The line leads to show two men shaking hands in front of a medical centre and community centre. One man is wearing a purple t-shirt and the other is wearing a blue t-shirt. The words ‘Develop relationships’ appear in the purple text box on the left of the screen.
The voiceover says: “Develop relationships with other trusted local organisations who can help you connect with new people.”
The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and a dark blue line is drawn to the left, leading to a woman with a walking stick. Signs indicating wheelchair access, toilets, and bus times are visible. The words ‘Ensure inclusivity and accessibility’ appear in the purple text box on the left of the screen.
The voiceover says: “Ensure your offer is inclusive and accessible so it has the biggest impact.”
The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and a red line is drawn to the top left. The line leads to a boy sitting on a bench with a mobile phone and headphones on, and a man standing next to him holding a piece of paper with the words ‘What’s on’ written on it and an icon of someone running. The words within the purple text box on the left of the screen disappear, and the words ‘Be curious’ appear at the top of the text box.
The voiceover says: “Be curious about what’s going on in your area to help tackle inactivity.”
The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and another red line is drawn to the top right. The line leads to four people sitting down facing a man and woman sitting behind a desk. Above the four people sitting down a sign can be seen with the words ‘Active Partnership’ written on it. The words ‘Get involved in local conversations’ appear in the purple text box on the left of the screen.
The voiceover says: “Get involved in conversations with local policy and decision-makers or contact your Active Partnership who’ll help connect you to them.”
The screen moves to again focus on the words ‘Place-based working’ and a second orange line is drawn to the bottom left, leading to five people standing behind or next to a desk, in front of a yellow gazebo. A man walking a dog approaches the desk. The words ‘Use your collective voice’ appear in the purple text box on the left of the screen.
The voiceover says: “Use your collective voice to increase awareness of the challenges your communities face and work collaboratively to ensure the right solutions and support exist in your area.”
The purple text box disappears, and the scene zooms out to show the words ‘Place-based working’ with all lines and images coming from it. Pink lines are drawn around the circumference to connect the different images.
The voiceover says: “By joining together at the local level, you can use your passion and enthusiasm to ensure your area is a place that everyone can enjoy being active in.”
The scene fades, and a hand is shown holding a mobile phone displaying the Place-based working Buddle webpage.
The voiceover says: “For more information, visit www.buddle.co”
The mobile phone turns on its side, and three logos emerge on a white screen, which is bordered by a mutli-coloured line. The logos are the Buddle logo at the top, followed by ‘supported by Sport England’ logo and ‘The National Lottery’ logo beneath. The URLs for Buddle and Sport England are shown at the bottom of the screen in black text and are www.buddle.co and www.sportengland.org.
The music fades, and the video ends.
