On a mission to make sure people get the most out of sport and physical activity opportunities? Looking to tackle inequalities and reduce the barriers people face to getting active? We are too.

We know it can be hard to figure out how to tackle inequalities and be more inclusive in delivering activity and supporting others to be active.

But fairness and inclusion are everyone’s responsibility, so the Moving to Inclusion Framework is here to help. Created by Sport England and the other home nations sports councils, the tool is designed to share information about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), offer guidance on inclusive practices, and provide further support and resources.

The five pillars

The framework supports you to adopt and use EDI practices in your organisation by focussing on five key areas (referred to as pillars):

Culture

How you create shared values and beliefs to guide people’s behaviour.

Leadership

How to lead by example and demonstrate your commitment to EDI.

Experiences

How you can improve everyone’s experience by understanding and addressing barriers and developing a positive environment.

Relationships

How you can make a difference and tackle inequalities through building strong partnerships.

Communication

How you can effectively share your EDI commitment and policies with everyone.

The framework helps you create an action plan to target the specific issues your organisation might be facing and recognises that everyone’s journey will be different.

It has lots of resources and support for you to adapt and use including guidance on how to write an EDI policy and an Improvement Plan.

Assess your practices

To assess your current EDI practices, the framework offers a toolkit that enables you to reflect and score (1-5) your organisation under each of the five pillars. You can use the scores to help you to prioritise actions and develop an Improvement Plan.

You can choose how you want to use the toolkit; for example, you could start with one specific area, or work across all five. Results are for your own improvement and are not monitored.

The framework can help you find solutions, generate ideas, and plan your next steps towards positive action. It gives you suggested solutions, to help you find appropriate support no matter what challenges you’re facing.
