Introduction

Many community clubs and groups want to own or run their own facilities or spaces. One way to do this is through a process known as a Community Asset Transfer (CAT).

A CAT can be a significant commitment, require specific skills or expertise and can come with different challenges along the way.

Our toolkit is designed to support community organisations who are looking to start, or are in the process of, taking on a facility or asset through a CAT.

The tool is broken down into six sections, which cover the key steps of the CAT journey, and aims to simplify the process to help you and others within your organisation to:

Understand what a CAT is and the associated benefits and risks.
Identify the key requirements needed, to help ensure your organisation is ready to take on a community asset.
Understand how to appropriately prepare for a CAT, to have the best chance of success.
Be aware of any planning and design requirements.
Consider if any professionals or experts will be required at different stages of the process.
Develop an understanding of what’s required to effectively run and manage a facility after a successful CAT.

How to use the tool

Using the tool is easy and should take about 30-45 minutes to read. The content can be navigated using the menu bar on the left-hand side of the screen, or by using the 'next section' button at the bottom of each page.

The menu bar includes the six key sections of the tool and the associated subsections. Should you wish to skip to certain sections or revisit the tool at any point, simply use this menu to take you to the relevant section.

Please note there is no requirement to log in to access the content of this tool.
